NEET Eligibility Criteria 2021

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2021 is the basic pre-requisite to apply for the exam. The eligibility criteria checks for whether the candidate can apply for the exam or not. NTA sets NEET eligibility requirements which should be met to apply for the exam. The eligibility factors are percentage of marks, nationality, age and others. Who are eligible for the NEET exam 2021?

No aspiring candidate can apply for the exam if the eligibility criteria are not fulfilled. All the India citizens, Non-resident Indians, Foreign Nationals, Overseas citizens of India and Persons of Indian Origin are eligible to appear for the exam. To carry out the process, NTA has established detailed eligibility criteria which are mentioned below. Aspirants should be aware that if they wish to study medicine at the undergraduate level, they must take and pass the NEET 2021 exam. NEET is now required for aspirants who desire to study medicine overseas yet return to India to practice medicine.

Basic Eligibility Criteria

The primary eligibility criteria to appear for exam is-

NEET 2021 Age Limit-

  1. Candidates must be of 17 at the time of application, or will do so before December 31, 2021. As a result, candidates' minimum birth dates should be December 31, 2021.
  2. Candidates above the age of 25 can apply for NEET 2021 on a temporary basis. A five-year relaxation is granted to applicants who fall into one of the restricted categories or PwD (person with disability).

NEET Eligibility Criteria (Education)

  1. The aspiring candidate should complete 12th or higher secondary school with medical as stream (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) with English subject from CBSE or any other state board.
  2. The candidates who have cleared 12th and have passing certifications from the authority can also apply for NEET exam.

All India Quota Eligibility in NEET

All India Quota students have 15% of reservation in various dental and medical college of the country. For this, the candidate has to be India citizen, NRI or Person with Indian Origin. The candidates from J&K, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana do not fall under this category.

 

 

Qualifications and qualifying exam codes

Aspirants must choose the NEET 2021 qualification codes for the qualifying examination when filling out the application form. Aspirants should familiarize themselves with the NEET qualifying codes by looking through the table below.

Code 01

This code must be selected by candidates who will be taking their Class 12 board test in 2021 and waiting for their board results. However, such applicants must have passed their class 12 exams according to the stipulated criteria before being considered for admission; else, they would be disqualified.

Code 02

This code is for students who have completed the higher/senior secondary examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), which is comparable to the Class 12 examination and occurs after a period of 12 educational years.

Code 03

This code is for candidates who have passed an Indian University/Board or other recognised body's Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a required subject. A practical test in science topics should be included in the course. Candidates who have passed their class 12 or equivalent qualifying test through a state board must also use this code.

Code 04

This code must be selected by applicants who have passed a Pre-professional/Pre-medical Test after completing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. Practical exams in these disciplines, as well as English as a compulsory subject, will be included in the Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination.

Code 05

Candidates who are pursuing a three-year degree from a recognised university and have passed the first year, which includes practical examinations in each of the aforementioned disciplines, must choose this code.

Code 06

Candidates who have passed the BSc Examination from an Indian recognised university with at least two of the disciplines Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology must select this code during the procedure to apply. They must also have completed a previous qualifying test (10+2) that included English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Code 07

Candidates must select this code if they have passed any other examination that is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian university/board in terms of scope and standard. This code is also necessary for aspirants who finished their qualifying exams in a foreign country.

FAQs-

      1. Does the age matters for NEET Exam?

Specifically, the authorities have not finalized the maximum age limit for a candidate to apply and sit for the exam. However, the candidate should be minimum of 17 years of age. And in the case of reserved quota the age limit is 25 years.

      2. Does the percentage of marks matter in the exam?

The percentage of marks obtained in class 12 is for the purpose of eligibility only. The least percentage of marks accepted is 40% for other categories and for general category students it is 50%.

      3. How many times a student can apply for the exam?

A candidate can apply for NEET exam without any restrictions. After the amendments in 2018, the restrictions on number of attempts are removed. Hence, now there is no limit to number of attempts.

      4. Who all can give NEET exam?

Everyone is eligible to give the NEET exam in India. However, there are some eligibility considerations to it which a candidate has to check before applying for the exam.

      5. What are the rules for NEET examination?

The authority has established specific norms and regulations that must be followed by an applicant in order to be regarded eligible for the admission process. The applicant can study the regulations in the information pamphlet to assist them follow them.
